Three Tennessee baseball players earned All-SEC honors on Monday afternoon. Right-handed pitcher Tegan Kuhns is a Second Team All-SEC selection while both Trent Grindlinger and Cam Appenzeller earned SEC All-Freshman honors.
Kuhns made 10 appearances and nine starts in SEC play, posting a 4-3 record, 3.52 ERA and 1.30 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched. He struck out 71 batters while walking just 11 over the course of the conference slate.
The right-handed sophomore served in multiple roles over the course of SEC play. Kuhns began the season as Tennessee’s Friday night starter before struggling early in the conference slate. Josh Elander briefly moved Kuhns out of the weekend rotation for one series before re-entering as the Vols’ Saturday starter. Kuhns moved back into the Friday night starting spot for the final three series of the regular season.
Kuhns twice earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors during the regular season. He allowed three hits and one walk in eight shutout innings in a win over Alabama. Two weeks later, Kuhns struck out 15 batters in seven shutout innings against Texas.

Grindlinger broke into Tennessee’s lineup as an everyday starter during the Mississippi State series. The freshman started at designated hitter for the remainder of the season and led the Vols with a .322 batting average in SEC play.
The California native added four home runs, five doubles and 18 RBIs in SEC play. His .398 on-base percentage led Tennessee in conference play.
Appenzeller had a turbulent conference slate. He hit the ground running, allowing no earned runs in his first 20 innings pitched. But Appenzeller struggled for much of the remainder of SEC play, allowing 20 earned runs in his final five appearances in SEC play.
The left-handed pitcher finished the regular season with a 5.77 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 34.1 innings pitched.
Tennessee enters the SEC Tournament with a 36-19 (15-15 SEC) record landing as the 10-seed. The Vols played poorly in their first four SEC series, leaving a series loss against LSU with a 4-8 SEC record. But starting with a series sweep at Mississippi State, the Vols posted an 11-7 SEC record in their final six series.
