WATCH: Lady Vols Freshman, Knoxville Native Belts Three-Run Home Run in First Women’s College World Series At Bat

Elsa Morrison’s first at bat at the Women’s College World Series will be one she never forgets.

With two runners on base in the top of the second inning, the freshman catcher belted a three-run homer to center field for the Lady Vols’ first runs of the game against the Texas Longhorns.

Alannah Leach got on base after getting hit by a pitch to start the inning, and then advanced to second after Makenzie Butt drew a walk. Morrison brought them home with a monster home run in the first WCWS at-bat of her career.

Morrison is a 5-foot-11 Knoxville native from Farragut High School. She was ranked by On3 Sports as the No. 11 prospect in the country, the No. 2 ranked catcher, and the No. 1 player from the Volunteer State.

Leading into Thursday’s opening game at the Women’s College World Series, Morrison had started 54 games this season. She entered the tournament in Oklahoma City with a .265 batting average, with 41 hits, 34 RBIs, 11 doubles, one triple, and six home runs.

The Lady Vols advanced to the Women’s College World Series by winning the Knoxville Regional and then sweeping Georgia in two games in the Knoxville Super Regional.

At the time of this publication, 7-seed Tennessee is beating 2-seed Texas by a score of 3-0 heading into the 5th inning. Morrison’s three-run homer accounts for the only runs of the game so far.
