In a roundabout way, Tennessee football may have gotten a bit of good news on the recruiting trail on Friday. SEC foe Georgia landed the commitment of four-star quarterback Colton Nussmeier. He is the younger brother of former LSU signal caller Garrett Nussmeier.
Colton Nussmeier ranks as the No. 142 player in the 2027 class, via 247. He is the No. 10 quarterback and No. 19 player from Texas in the class. He is from Denton, Texas, where he plays for Denton Ryan.
So, why is the Bulldogs landing another blue-chip quarterback potentially good news? Well, it takes a competitor off the board for Tennessee’s quarterback commit, Derrick Baker. After committing to UT, Barker picked up an offer from his home state school, UGA.

Baker ranks as the No. 731 player in the cycle, via 247 Composite. He is the No. 40 quarterback and No. 89 player from the state of Georgia, as well. He is from Alpharetta and plays for Milton High School.
This weekend, Baker is in Knoxville for an official visit, as well. It will be a busy weekend on Rocky Top, with multiple official visits taking place. The headliner of the weekend will be five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, who just saw Ohio State. The Vols are looking to get back in his favor, now, after the Buckeyes gained serious momentum.
Currently, Tennessee’s class of 2027 commitment list ranks just outside the top-30 on both 247 and Rivals. However, the Vols have laid a strong foundation to build on and are in good standing with a number of highly-rated recruits.
