Former Tennessee legend Bernard King saw history on Wednesday night in Madison Square Garden.
According to a report from Front Office Sports, King was in the building for the New York Knicks’ historic 29-point comeback win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. King was one of at least 16 former Knicks in attendance for the unforgettable game.
King, who was with the Knicks from 1982-1987, didn’t lose faith in his team entering Game 4 on Wednesday.
“This is a pivotal game because the next game is going to be on the road,” King said on ESPN before the contest. “This game has to be won tonight. I expect this team to step up tonight and play well. They’ll push the ball up the floor, which they didn’t do as much as they should have in the last ballgame. And we’ve got to really handle the pressure of their defense tonight. And that’s going to be key, so we don’t commit as many turnovers.”

The game didn’t look like it was going the Knicks’ way through the first 24 minutes of the contest. The Spurs held a 76-49 lead going into the halftime break, and even held a 29-point lead at one point in the game. But as New York began to find its stride in the second half, San Antonio began collapsing. The Spurs scored just 30 total points in the second half as the Knicks took the final lead of the game with just 1.2 seconds on the clock.
New York is now up 3-1 in the series with Game 5 heading back to San Antonio. The Knicks won Games 1, 2, and 4, while the Spurs won Game 3.
Bernard King was a three-time NBA All-Star and a two-time All-NBA First Team selection during his time with New York. During a successful collegiate stint at the University of Tennessee, King was a three-time SEC Player of the Year and a three-time First Team All-SEC selection. His No. 53 jersey is currently hung in the rafters of Thompson Boling Arena.
Additionally, VFL and 1999 NBA Champion with the New York Knicks, Allan Houston, was at the Knicks’ Game 2 win in San Antonio last week.
