Former Tennessee superstar Alvin Kamara has been one of the most involved VFLs during the Josh Heupel era. He’s been to regular-season games, spring practices, spring games, and recruiting events. Just in the last month, he flew into Knoxville to personally recruit elite running back target David Gabriel Georges, and even rounded the bases on a home run during the Savannah Bananas baseball game in Neyland Stadium.
The Vols have several standout VFLs, but Kamara has gone the extra mile for the Vols on multiple occasions. In April, he donated a “large philanthropic gift” to Tennessee Athletics.
The term Vol For Life is a catchy way to describe former Tennessee players. But for Kamara, it means more than just a title.
“What does it mean to be a VFL? Man, being a VFL means everything,” Kamara said in a Tennessee promotional video this week. “Literally. It sounds cliché, but you know, it’s about giving your all. It’s about being a beacon. Just being all you can be. Being a VFL and being around and seeing other VFLs and connecting with them, I think you really truly understand the impact that you have as someone that wore that Power T.
“It means a lot. And, you know, I don’t take it lightly. And I don’t think the guys that are in my shoes the same way, I don’t think they take it lightly. Being a VFL is everything.”

Kamara spent just two years at Tennessee, but his impact has been felt for a full decade since his departure to the NFL. While shattered records and molding a new archetype for NFL running backs, Tennessee fans have been proud to know that Kamara once wore the Power T and still loves the Vols. His actions have backed it up, too.
During his two-year Tennessee career from 2015 to 2016, Kamara totaled 1,294 rushing yards, 16 rushing touchdowns, 683 receiving yards, and seven receiving touchdowns. He even completed his lone collegiate passing attempt for 24 yards.
“Tennessee, it just feels like home,” Kamara said. “It’s good energy, good people, good food. And, you know, Neyland Stadium’s here. Super special. The electricity in that stadium, it’s amazing. Neyland Stadium is definitely like one of the top stadiums I’ve played in, period. Pro or college. Man, running through the T on gameday is like no other experience in college football. In football really, man. I remember when I first got here, and my first opportunity to go out there. You know, you kind of standing in the front, looking out into the stadium, into the fans, just getting ready for the game. And you realize where you’re at. Man, that experience, I can still feel it.”
