Former Tennessee golfer Caleb Surratt made the cut at this week’s US Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on Long Island. Surratt enters the weekend 4-over-par and tied for 60th place.

Surratt entered Friday with some serious work to do after posting a 5-over-par 75 in his opening round Thursday. He was two strokes behind the projected cut line entering the day before posting a 1-under-par 69 on Friday afternoon to make the weekend.

The 22-year old came out on fire Friday, shooting 3-under on the front nine and remained 3-under before bogeying the final two holes of his round. Despite the poor finish, Surratt’s round was good enough to make the cut by one single stroke.

Surratt is a part of LIV Golf after spending a year and a half at Tennessee. He earned a spot in the US Open by shooting 3-under-par over 36 holes at the Dallas Athletic Club.

Two current Tennessee players also competed in the 126th US Open but did not make the cut. Jackson Herrington shot 9-over-par posting a 75 on Thursday and a 74 on Friday. Chase Kyes shot 12-over-par, shooting 75 on Thursday and 77 on Friday.

Herrington qualified for the 126th US Open by finishing second at last summer’s US Amateur at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Kyes earned his invite to the US Open through local qualifying. The Birmingham native shot 11-under-par in two rounds of qualifying at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Georgia earlier this month.
