Just a few days after losing a defensive lineman in the 2027 class, Tennessee Football made recruiting news on Friday by landing a commitment from Pennsylvania safety Marcus Jones. The 6-foot-3 defensive back currently plays for The Haverford School in Haverford, PA.

Jones has both three-star and four-star rankings from both major publications, putting him right on the fringe of the two rankings. Rivals lists him as a four-star prospect and a Top 200 recruit in the nation, while 247Sports has him as a three-star prospect.

Ultimately, 247Sports’ Composite Rankings tag Jones as a four-star player, the No. 262 prospect in the nation, the No. 22 safety in the class, and the No. 9 player from the state of Pennsylvania.

Jones’ commitment comes on the heels of an official visit in Knoxville on June 12. He then visited Michigan the following week, but felt good enough about what Tennessee had to offer to announce his commitment on Friday afternoon.

With Jones’ commitment, Tennessee is back up to 16 pledged players in the 2027 recruiting class. Jones’ news comes just two days after Tennessee lost a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Kadin Fife, who had previously been one of the Vols’ longest commitments in the cycle.

As of Friday afternoon, Tennessee’s recruiting class is ranked 32nd in the nation and 12th in the SEC on Rivals. 247Sports, meanwhile, has Tennessee ranked 44th in the nation and 12th in the SEC.
