A week from today, five-star running back David Gabriel Georges will announce his commitment. He is down to Tennessee football, Ohio State and Ole Miss, though the widespread belief is that the battle is down to the Vols and Buckeyes.

As we count down to his live commitment ceremony, Tennessee and Ohio State fans have argued over who is in the best spot to land his pledge. Gabriel Georges recently said he’s still undecided, but that doesn’t mean insiders haven’t talked to sources close to the situation who have their own leans.

While he noted that he isn’t confident enough yet from what he’s heard to make an official prediction, Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong said one team is being brought up more than any other for Gabriel Georges’ commitment — Tennessee. During an appearance on Rivals’ YouTube page, he went into detail about what he’s heard.

“Well, talking to a lot of sources on my end about it, the majority would lean Tennessee, but there still are sources that believe Ohio State ultimately lands David Gabriel Georges,” Wiltfong said. “I’ve had a prediction for well over a year in favor of the Buckeyes. They were the early favorites for David Gabriel Georges. They got him to campus several times. Carlos Locklyn, his potential position coach on the next level, was the first to offer him a scholarship when he was at Oregon. That relationship was continued at Ohio State. The track record, the development, the caliber of player David Gabriel Georges would be surrounded by in practice, the way Ohio State recruits the offensive line, the track record of playing in the biggest games and competing for championships, the NFL draft. Ohio State has offered his best friend a slot on the team and a full scholarship, as well.

“The Buckeyes have a lot to stand on in this recruitment, but as Chris Low reported this week, Tennessee’s offer, $2 million a year over three years, so a $6 million package amongst other bells and whistles to the deal. The chance to start right away, wear No. (0). Josh Heupel has been recruiting him as hard as anybody. A chance to help Tennessee get back on track, and to use a word his uncle used, legend, become a legend at Tennessee. There is a belief for them, although we know schools improve your chances at becoming a first-round draft pick, that David Gabriel Georges could go anywhere and be a first-round draft pick, and that obviously includes Tennessee.

“Again, the majority of sources feel like Tennessee is going to land David Gabriel Georges, but there are sources that believe he ultimately goes to Ohio State, and I think there’s confidence around both programs still with eight days to go.”

The Vols hosted Gabriel Georges for his official visit on June 5, the week after he saw Ohio State. Then, he visited Ole Miss before cancelling his official visit to Georgia and narrowing his list down to three.

In 2025, he was named 2025 MaxPreps Tennessee High School Football Player of the Year, rushing for 1,756 yards and 27 touchdowns in a 12-0 season.
