Former Tennessee baseball pitcher Jax Bishop has found a new home. Bishop committed to Memphis baseball out of the transfer portal on Saturday after spending just one season in Knoxville, he announced on Instagram. Bishop entered the transfer portal on the final day of June right before the portal closed.
Bishop missed the fall after undergoing Tommy John surgery during his hip school senior year. The Rome, Georgia native made five appearances after returning from injury, posting a 3.37 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 2.2 innings pitched. He walked and struck out two batters each.
A high school standout at the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Bishop did not make any of his appearances against SEC competition last season.
Memphis is entering its third season under head coach Matt Riser. The Tigers posted a 24-34 (13-14 American) record during the 2026 season.

Eighteen Tennessee players have entered the transfer portal this offseason including Bishop, right-handed pitcher D.J. McDowell, shortstop Manny Marin, right-handed pitcher Brayden Krenzel, outfielder Hunter High, infielder Ethan Moore first baseman Evan Hankins, right-handed pitcher Nic Abraham, outfielder Nate Eisfelder, shortstop Manny Marin, utility man Jay Abernathy, catcher Cash Williams, infielder Finley Bates, shortstop Ariel Antigua, utility man Chris Newstrom, outfielder Hutson Chance, two-way Taylor Tracey, right-handed pitcher Sawyer Deering and right-handed pitcher Ari Bethea.
Ten transfers have announced their commitments to Tennessee to date including Air Force infielder Wyatt Hanoian, Baylor infielder Travis Sanders, FIU infielder Mario Trivella, Cal Bapist shortstop Chris Ramirez, Wright State outfielder Andrew Duncan, Louisville RHP Parker Detmers, South Carolina left-handed pitcher Jake McCoy, Northwestern State left-handed pitcher Brody Trosclair, UC Irvine left-handed pitcher Ricky Ojeda and Mercer two-way Braydon Kersey.
MLB teams drafted both Duncan and McCoy in last weekend’s MLB Draft but neither are signing professionally and will instead play at Tennessee next season.
