Tennessee Football made a huge splash in the 2026 recruiting cycle last August when it flipped five-star wide receiver Tristen “TK” Keys away from LSU. Keys jumped in the Vols’ boat before the season and ended up signing with Tennessee just a few months later. When it was all said and done, Keys was the second-highest rated signee in the Vols’ 2026 class on both 247Sports and Rivals.
Rivals’ Industry Rankings had Keys tabbed as the No. 15 player in the 2026 class, the No. 2 wide receiver in the cycle, and the No. 1 player from the state of Mississippi.
As an early enrollee, Keys participated in Tennessee Football’s training camp in the spring, giving a glimpse of what his talent looked like in the Vols’ orange uniform. Tennessee offensive coordinator Joey Halzle noted his “natural skill set,” while also mentioning that he was working his tail off to earn a role with the team.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel was asked about Keys during SEC Media Days on Monday and shared some high praise for the freshman talent.
“I think he came in and went to work immediately,” Heupel said. “High-level recruit with high-level athletic traits. I think the way he’s gone about his work has garnered trust and respect from his teammates. A guy that’s continually growing. Physically, his size, his speed, change of direction, acceleration, the fundamental and technical traits we’re asking of that position and his overall football understanding, specifically inside of the scope of what we’re doing offensively. Tremendous athlete that competes at a really high level. Really excited that we get an opportunity to compete and get better during the course of training camp.”

“He’s a guy that right when you see him, you can tell he’s got a natural skill set,” Tennessee OC Joey Halzle said of Keys during the spring. “He’s got all the tangibles that you want, and he’s just like any young guy that is coming in. He’s extremely talented. He makes plays. You just gotta work the mental side of it to where we can trust him to be where we want to be, and he’s working his butt off to do it. He’s done a great job. But it’s always the young guy thing, and especially with a talented guy that you wanna see on the field.”
Tennessee returns two talented wide receivers in Braylon Staley and Mike Matthews from last year’s starting lineup. But with Chris Brazzell now gone to the NFL, there’s an opening available. With it being an outside role, there are three main options, all of which will likely get some run throughout the year even if they don’t start. This features second-year receivers Travis Smith Jr. and Radarious Jackson, and true freshman TK Keys. Both Smith and Jackson got occasional play throughout their freshmen years as four-star prospects, but battled injury.
