On Wednesday, Tennessee football landed another five-star prospect on the offensive side of the ball. Coveted in-state running back David Gabriel Georges picked the Vols over Ohio State and Ole Miss to propel UT up the class of 2027 rankings and add an instant spark to next year’s offense.
This isn’t a one-off for Josh Heupel, though. Instead, this continues a trend of elite recruiting on the offensive side of the ball that is starting to accumulate in a stacked roster. It now marks five straight recruiting classes with a five-star on offense committed to the program, with the majority potentially on next year’s roster, all playing together.

Besides Iamaleava and Gabriel Georges, each of those prospects is on the roster for this upcoming season. There’s a chance that that entire group, with the addition of Gabriel Georges, will be there next year, as well. The wildcard is anyone transferring out or Matthews potentially entering the NFL draft.
That means there is a reality where Tennessee could have a five-star at quarterback, both tackle spots on the offensive line (or an LSU transfer in Ory Williams if Osenda stays in a reserve role), running back, two wide receiver spots and running back. All that leaves is tight end, slot receiver and the interior of the offensive line, which the Vols have also recruited very well and have blue-chip prospects filling in.
With additions through the transfer portal also helping iron out the roster, that’s exactly how you build a national championship-caliber offense. The question then turns to what the defense will look like. There are former five-star recruits on that side of the ball, as well, but the x-factor will be Jim Knowles at defensive coordinator. If the team adjusts well this year and then takes an expected step forward in 2027, it could create a dangerous combination that sees UT back in true title contention.
