Tennessee Football made a major splash in the recruiting world on Wednesday evening with the commitment of elite five-star running back David Gabriel Georges from Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN. It’s been a long, hard-fought recruitment for Josh Heupel and his staff, but the Vols were able to land the plane over Ohio State and Ole Miss to keep the Tennessee prospect within the state.
As a five-star and Top 10 prospect in the cycle, Gabriel Georges is the highest-rated commit in Tennessee’s 2027 class so far. But he’s also one of the highest-rated prospects that Tennessee has landed in the Josh Heupel era.
According to 247Sports, Gabriel Georges is the 10th highest-ranked Tennessee commit in the recruiting rankings era. He lands one spot behind class of 2005 cornerback Demetrice Morley and one spot ahead of class of 2019 offensive tackle Darnell Wright.
Gabriel Georges is the third-highest commit that Tennessee has landed under Josh Heupel. He trails only class of 2023 quarterback Nico Iamaleava (No. 3) and class of 2025 offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. (No. 4) on the list.

Other notable Heupel-era names on Tennessee’s all-time commitment rankings include class of 2026 quarterback Faizon Brandon (No. 12), class of 2026 wide receiver TK Keys (No. 14), class of 2024 EDGE rusher Jordan Ross (No. 17), and class of 2024 wide receiver Mike Matthews (No. 23).
This means that when you project toward Tennessee’s 2027 roster, the Vols will have five of their Top 23 all-time commits on one team, with all five being on offense. That’s as nasty a projection as you’re going to find around the sport.
We know that Sanders and Matthews are going to be key parts of Tennessee’s upcoming team this fall, but the jury’s still out on Brandon and Keys. Brandon is in a battle for the starting quarterback competition with redshirt freshman George MacIntyre, while Keys will try to crack Tennessee’s receiver rotation with one starting spot up for grabs. Gabriel Georges should be an immediate contributor when he arrives in Knoxville for his freshman season in 2027.
