What Would You Think of Summitt Blue Tennessee Football Uniforms?

Tennessee Athletics added alternate Summitt Blue uniforms for Tennessee women’s basketball, soccer, volleyball, and softball in August 2022, highlighting the color that signifies Pat Summitt and Title IX’s impact on the sports world over the years.

Since then, Tennessee’s hockey team adopted a version of the Summitt Blue uniform, and we’ve even seen the UT football team incorporate Summitt Blue accessories into their home uniforms for one game over the past few seasons.

Tennessee football hasn’t been afraid to drop new alternate uniforms in recent years, particularly with the Smokey Grey threads.

We’re not here to say it’s at all likely, but let’s think of a hypothetical here… Would you ever want to see Tennessee wear Summitt Blue football uniforms?

The Field Rush posted a mock up of a Summitt Blue jersey with orange pants on social media last week. But judging from the comments on The 1796’s post about the hypothetical threads… the common answer sounds like a big, fat no.

With nearly 100 comments in less than a few hours on Saturday morning, the Vols’ vocal fanbase in the replies doesn’t seem to be fans of these.

“Nah, I can’t defend this one,” Tri-Star Network responded.

“Looks like Florida,” another user commented. “Gross.”

“No,” one user said. “Summitt Blue is the Lady Vols brand.”

Some are positive, and like the hypothetical mock-up. But they are few and far between.

As previously mentioned, Tennessee has added Summitt Blue accessories into their orange-and-white and all-orange looks scarcely over the last few seasons. That hasn’t been a bad look, especially considering it’s not being used for any marquee matchups. They’ve been primarily used for non-conference or Homecoming games, though it was worn during an SEC game against Mississippi State last season.

The accessories do a good job of honoring a historic Tennessee brand on the other side of the athletics department without changing too much of the Vols’ iconic threads on the football field.

There doesn’t seem to be a likely world where Tennessee dons Summitt Blue primary jerseys, but the accessories could continue forward for a minor game on the schedule each season.
