Former Tennessee baseball star Christian Moore is headed back to The Show after suffering an injury last month. The Los Angeles Angels called Moore back up to the majors on Sunday, exactly a month after putting him on the 10-day IL with left thumb sprain.
Moore suffered the injury trying to make a diving play against the Braves. The injury looked very bad at first but proved to not be as significant as originally feared.
The infielder played four games with High-A Inland Empire on a rehab assignment over the last week, going five-for-11 at the plate with a two-run homer. Ironically, Moore’s home run was an opposite field shot that sailed over the head of former Tennessee right fielder Kavares Tears.

Los Angeles originally called Moore on June 12 less than a year after they drafted the Tennessee standout with the eighth pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Moore got off to a slow start with the Angels but found his footing in his first stint in the majors, hitting .189 with three home runs, a triple and eight RBIs. He also walked eight times to push his on-base percentage to .302 in his first 18 MLB games.
The former All-SEC selection had a number of notable moments early in his MLB career, standing up for a teammate in a benches clearing brouhaha, making heads up defensive plays and delivering his first career walk-off hit.
Moore is one of the most accomplished players in Tennessee baseball history. The second baseman holds the Vols’ career home run record with 61 long balls. As a junior, he smashed the program single-season home run record with 34 blasts. Moore hit .375 with the 34 home runs, 19 doubles and 74 RBIs in the leadoff spot helping lead Tennessee to its first national championship in program history.
The Los Angeles Angels are currently 53-58 and wrap up a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox Sunday. They then host the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game series beginning Monday night.
