Every year, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic compiles the ‘Freaks List‘ for the best athletes in college football. On Monday, he released the 2025 edition of the College Football Freaks List, featuring 101 players across the country.

This included one current Tennessee football star, as well as a player who recently transferred out of the program.

Arion Carter, the Vols’ junior linebacker who just represented UT at SEC Media Days in Atlanta, was ranked at No. 12 on the list. He is expected to be one of Tennessee’s pair of starting linebackers, with the possibility to play his way into a high draft pick after his third season with the university.

“The 6-1, 235-pound junior had a breakout season in 2024, leading a stacked defense with 68 tackles to go with 6.5 TFLs and one interception,” Feldman wrote. “The junior will linebacker, a team captain, is a more explosive athlete than most running backs. This offseason, Carter, a former 300-meter hurdler in high school, vertical jumped 40.3 inches. He’s also hit 21.2 mph on the GPS and bench pressed 325 pounds.”

Carter has appeared in 21 games through his first two seasons in Knoxville. In this time, he has produced 85 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and a crucial interception against Florida last season.

Also making the list is Cameron Seldon, a former Tennessee running back who just transferred to Virginia Tech this past offseason. He clocks in at No. 70 on the list. With the Hokies, it is expected that he plays wide receiver.

“He spent two seasons at Tennessee as a reserve running back/returnman before coming back to his home state, where he was once the top-ranked prospect in Virginia and won state titles in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash (twice) and 4×100-meter relay,” Feldman wrote. “The 6-1 1/2, 210-pound Seldon is probably the fastest Hokie, having clocked 22.9 mph this offseason. He also broad jumped 10-4 and vertical jumped 36 inches.”

Seldon was in the same recruiting class as Carter, playing the past two seasons with Tennessee to open his college career. In those pair of seasons, Seldon played in 19 games, recording 48 carries. This led to 224 yards and a touchdown. He caught one pass for a loss of two yards. He also returned a total of six kicks, three each year on the team.
