On Saturday, Tennessee football went inside Neyland Stadium to get a better look at this year’s team through a scrimmage format.
While the scrimmage took place behind closed doors, Josh Heupel met with the media afterward to give his thoughts and the Vols’ social media accounts have posted some videos of what happened.
Here are the highlights available from Saturday morning in Knoxville.

Most recently, Tennessee posted a video that primarily consisted of big hits from defenders. It opened with senior defensive end Tyre West slinging down transfer running back Star Thomas.
The next clip sees freshman Justin Baker tote the ball and making a defensive back miss. He’s brought down with a big hit from defensive lineman Herb Gray, though.
Next cuts to tight end Seamus Meagher being tackled by who appears to be freshman linebacker Jaedon Harmon. The final clip is Baker running again, lowering his shoulder into freshman defensive back Tre Poteat, who makes the tackle.

The video posted before that was much faster-paced and didn’t feature the conclusion of the majority of the plays. Early in the video, it flashes the likes of running back Peyton Lewis, freshman running back Daune Morris, wide receiver Braylon Harmon, freshman wide receiver Travis Smith Jr., freshman tight end DaSaahn Brame, safety Edrees Farooq, linebacker Ben Bolton, linebacker Arion Carter, defensive back Colin Brazzell, linebacker Edwin Spillman, freshman defensive lineman Ethan Utley and defensive lineman Jamal Wallace.
It also shows all three of Tennessee’s quarterbacks that are competing for the starting job. The video displays Joey Aguilar, Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre throwing, but the results of the passes aren’t seen.
Once play begins, it shows Baker running, Brame toting the ball, defensive back Marcus Goree Jr. making a tackle, West tackling Thomas, Thomas running free, freshman offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. in pass protection, Brame scoring a touchdown with Steele Katina in coverage, Lewis carrying the ball and a few other short clips.

The first video to come out of the scrimmage was of Baker. The video shows him getting a handoff from MacIntyre, who fakes a throw to the perimeter. Baker cuts to the outside and uses a block to spring free.
After picking up the first down, he’s tackled by Gray. The end of the clip was also in the first video listed in this article.
