Five-star Tennessee running back target Savion Hiter is announcing his college commitment Tuesday. Hiter is announcing his commitment in a ceremony at his high school at 11:15 a.m. ET with Rivals streaming the announcement on their YouTube page.

Hiter is the top ranked uncommitted prospect in the country and is down to a top four that includes Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Tennessee. However, the Vols and Wolverines are the top two contenders to land the blue-chip running back.

No recruiting experts have placed a prediction for where Hiter will land as the running back keeps things tight lipped ahead of his announcement. However, most view Michigan as a slight favorite over Tennessee due to its longevity in Hiter’s recruitment.

Hiter ranks as a five-star recruit and the No. 9 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Mineral native also ranks as the top player in the state of Virginia and the No. 1 running back in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

Tennessee surged in Hiter’s recruitment earlier this summer after visiting Knoxville for the 865 Live! weekend in late May and returning for an official a month later for his official visit. Hiter’s final visit was to Knoxville, giving Tennessee a chance to make the final impression.

The Vols’ 2026 recruiting class currently contains 22 commits but none of them are from running backs. In fact, Tennessee hasn’t been actively recruiting any running backs other than Hiter in the 2026 cycle.

Tennessee isn’t in huge need of running backs in the 2026 cycle. DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis each project to be back for the 2026 season and the Vols signed a pair of running backs in the 2025 cycle— four-star Daune Morris and three-star Justin Baker.

The Vols’ 2026 recruiting class currently ranks No. 10 nationally and No. 6 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings. Landing Hiter, would bump Tennessee’s class to No. 9 nationally and ahead of Ohio State. If Hiter lands at Michigan, the Wolverines would jump Tennessee in the recruiting rankings.
