On Thursday, the SEC announced it will officially go to a nine-game conference football schedule beginning in the 2026 season. In addition, SEC teams, such as Tennessee, will also be required to play a member of the ACC, Big Ten or Big 12 (or Notre Dame) every regular season.

In the case of the Vols, a good bit of their future scheduling is already cemented. Tennessee has games scheduled up until 2030, with a Power Four opponent on the books every year until that point.

As far as the SEC scheduling goes, it’ll be three annual opponents and six others on a rotation. The three annual rivalry games are yet to be announced, but it’s likely Vanderbilt and Alabama would be two of Tennessee’s. The third is up for debate between the likes of Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and a few others.

“Adding in a ninth SEC game underscores our universities’ commitment to delivering the most competitive football schedule in the nation,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said. “This format protects rivalries, increases competitive balance, and paired with our requirement to play an additional Power opponent, ensures SEC teams are well prepared to compete and succeed in the College Football Playoff.”

Here’s a look at the schedules, which can still be subject to change if either party wants to buy out of it, as we head into the 2025 season.
