No. 24 Tennessee vs Syracuse
The Volunteers and the Orange are both breaking in new quarterbacks after achieving 10-win seasons last year. Tennessee brought in App State/UCLA transfer Joey Aguilar to replace Nico Iamaleava, while Syracuse grabbed Notre Dame’s Steve Angeli from the transfer portal to replace Kyle McCord.
The quarterbacks are just a piece of the puzzle, though, with both teams looking to replace several key contributors on both sides of the ball last season. Despite that, Tennessee has an overall edge in the game thanks to its depth and talent in the trenches on both offense and defense.
Tennessee lands at No. 24 in the preseason AP Poll, while Syracuse did not make the cut. The Vols also come in at No. 8 in ESPN’s Football Power Index rankings, while Syracuse is all the way back at No. 63 on the list.
