Former Tennessee infielder Christian Moore belted the fourth home run of his rookie season in the bigs during a blowout loss to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.
It was the first home run that Moore has had since his return from injury in early August. Moore originally suffered a left thumb injury in early July, which prompted him to miss just over a month of action over the summer. He returned to the Angels on August 3rd and has played in 19 games, including Wednesday’s game against Texas.
Moore took an 83 MPH changeup 401 feet to left center field for his fourth home run of the season. It didn’t do much to help even things up against the Rangers, bringing the score to 11-2 with the solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. The Angels would go on to lose by a score of 20-3 for their ninth loss in their last 12 games.

Through 37 games and 109 at-bats this season, Moore is hitting .202 with four home runs and 12 RBIs. He’s also got two doubles, one triple, 14 walks, and 38 strikes through this point in his rookie campaign.
He’s been rock solid from a field perspective with only one error in 113 total chances. Moore’s got 70 assists and 14 double-plays from the second base position.
It’s not easy playing for a team that’s struggling like Los Angeles has this season, especially in the last month, but Moore has put together some promising moments since being called up in mid-June. Despite the Angels not winning too often this month, Moore is hitting .214 in August compared to .200 during his first month in June. With L.A. squarely out of contention for the playoffs, though, Moore should get plenty of chances to get comfortable and show what he’s got through the remainder of the season. The Angels aren’t playing for anything past the regular season, which means there’s no better time than now to continue getting a young guy like Moore reps at the plate and in the field.
Moore was taken with the eighth overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels. He played three seasons for Tony Vitello’s Volunteers in Knoxville, helping Tennessee win the 2024 National Championship. Moore put together a historic and unforgettable playoff run en route to the trophy.
