Best bets for Tennessee vs. Syracuse to Open College Football Season

The Tennessee Volunteers will say goodbye to the offseason when they hit the turf tomorrow in Atlanta. On the docket is a tilt with the Syracuse Orangemen, an ACC squad that finished 10-3 last year, topping its season off with a win over the Washington Huskies in the Holiday Bowl.

With Vols ball officially back, let’s examine some of the best bets and props at college football betting apps ahead of Saturday’s noon kickoff.

Tennessee: -13.5 points (-112 or better)

Tennessee is technically the road team in this contest, but at a neutral site in Atlanta, it may as well be a home game. Josh Heupel’s squad should be expected to pummel Syracuse, and Tennessee football odds seeing the spread at 13.5 points feels low for this matchup. These two last met in 2001, and the Vols hung 33 points on the hapless Orangemen. Syracuse’s program has certainly come a long way since then, but Tennessee should be good for a two-touchdown edge on Saturday in Atlanta.

Score total: Under 51.5 points (-102 or better)

While Tennessee should take this one, it could be a low-scoring affair. Caesars has the over/under at . New quarterback Joey Aguilar will get his first taste of game action under center, and with a bevy of new players on the Syracuse side, this may revert to a ground-and-pound game for each program. Syracuse will also be starting a new quarterback of its own after losing Kyle McCord to the NFL.

Bishop anytime touchdown: -185 or better

With All ACC running back Dylan Sampson’s departure, the backfield at Rocky Top now belongs to redshirt sophomore DeSean Bishop. Despite injuries in his first full season in 2024, Bishop still racked up 455 yards and three touchdowns on 74 carries. Expect the Vols to lean heavily on Bishop with Aguilar making his first Tennessee start. BetMGM has his odds at to score a touchdown Saturday.

Aguilar over 230 passing yards: +123 or better

Aguilar will officially announce himself to the Volunteer faithful on Saturday against Syracuse, and the Appalachian State transfer arrives with lofty expectations. Aguilar averaged 273 passing yards per game last season for the Hilltoppers, and with the Orangemen rolling out a young secondary, Aguilar should see his opportunities to move the ball downfield.
