
No. 24 Tennessee put up nearly 50 points in a season-opening win over Syracuse on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, GA. The Vols’ new quarterback, Joey Aguilar, threw for three touchdowns while Tennessee added in two rushing touchdowns and a defensive score to win the game 45-26 in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Tennessee put up 493 total yards of offense while the Vols’ defense forced two turnovers that led to 14 total points on the day. Colton Hood’s defensive scoop n’ score was a major first-half moment as Tennessee picked up some momentum with the lead.
After the game, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and Syracuse head coach Fran Brown both spent some time with the media as they broke down their reactions to the game. Heupel talked about the play of Joey Aguilar and the running back room, what Hood’s defensive touchdown meant, the play of UT’s newcomers and freshmen, and much more. Brown, on the other hand, spoke about what things went wrong en route to the loss and where Tennessee had the edge in the game.
