Israeli shooting guard Ethan Burg arrived in Knoxville Monday night two months after committing to Tennessee. Burg was the last member of the 2025-26 team to arrive on campus, now giving the Vols a complete roster as fall workouts continue.

Burg was delayed getting to Knoxville after playing on the Israeli national team in the FIBA EuroCup in late August and early September. Israel went 3-2 in the event, earning wins over Iceland, Poland, France and Belgium before losing to the Luka Doncic-led Slovenia national team in its final pool play game and falling to Giannis Antetokounmpothe-led Greece team in the Round of 16.

The 6-foot-3 shooting guard played only sparingly in the tournament, totaling just five points and two rebounds in 17 total minutes of action in the five games.

A 23-year old guard, Burg spent his last two seasons playing professionally for Bnei Herzeliya in the Ligat Winner League in Israel.

During the 2024-25 season, Burg averaged 11.1 points on 45% from the field, 38% from three-point range and 80% from the foul line. Playing in 24 games, the 6-foot-3 guard made 1.6 three pointers per game. He also averaged 3.4 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game.

Burg posted similar numbers during the 2023-24 season, averaging 10.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He was less efficient shooting the ball, making 42% of his shots from the field and 29% from three-point range.

The 23-year old Israel native has the chance to compete for playing time in his first season in Knoxville. Maryland transfer Ja’Kobi Gillespie will start at point guard for Tennessee and five-star freshman wing Nate Ament will start at small forward.

But there’s an abundance of playing time available at shooting guard for Tennessee this season. Burg will compete with Bishop Boswell, Amaree Abram, Troy Henderson, Amari Evans and Clarence Massamba for minutes at the two-spot.

Burg has as much if not more basketball experience than anyone in that group but is playing catchup after arriving on campus three months later than everyone other than Massamba— who arrived in Knoxville in mid August.

Tennessee has a full roster for next season with 15 players on scholarships. Former walk-ons Grant Hurst and Campbell Duncan are now on scholarship along with Gillespie, Henderson, Boswell, Burg, Abram, Evans, Massamba, Ament, DeWayne Brown, Jaylen Carey, Cade Phillips, JP Estrella and Felix Okpara.
