‘I’ll Be Good’: Georgia Football Wide Receiver Not Worried About Rocky Top vs. Tennessee

Tennessee football’s Neyland Stadium has earned the reputation of one of the best atmospheres in the sport. What helps its case is ‘Rocky Top’ on repeat throughout Saturdays, becoming an annoyance to the visiting team and any road fans in attendance.

Some coaches or players have noted how the song gets stuck in your head and can wear on you. In an attempt to prepare, a lot of opposing schools have ‘Rocky Top’ on repeat in the practice facility to try to get players used to hearing the iconic song.

For Georgia, that’s likely the plan, as well. When Bulldogs wide receiver Colbie Young met with the media on Monday, he said he hadn’t heard it yet, though. He also thinks it won’t be too much different than hearing Florida State’s song when he was playing for Miami.

“I haven’t really heard that song yet,” Young said. “I played at Miami and we had to listen to Florida State’s song, so I feel like I’ll be good.”

Young also seems confident that UGA quarterback Gunner Stockton won’t have too much of an issue having his voice heard. He said they can hear him well in huddles, and the confidence he has makes the team believe they’ll handle pressure.

That, combined with Smart’s ability to make it loud at practice and have the team uncomfortable, is what gives Young the conviction to make these comments.

“Gunner has a great voice. He’s very vocal. Very loud,” Young said. “We hear him in the huddle. He’s very confident in his calls and his checks. We’re very confident that we’ll be good under pressure. Coach Smart does an amazing job of making it loud and making it uncomfortable on Tuesday, Wednesday, every day in practice, he’s gonna get after us on the mic and all that. We’re excited. I feel like practice is going to be harder, so we’ll be great.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET inside Neyland Stadium. The game will air on ABC and ESPN’s College GameDay will be in attendance during the morning. Fans are also going to ‘checker’ the stadium with it being designated as the annual Checker Neyland game.
