Where Tennessee Football is Ranked in the Coaches Poll After Loss to Georgia

Tennessee football had multiple chances to take down Georgia at home, but ultimately fell in overtime. The Vols now sit at 2-1 overall and 0-1 in SEC play a quarter of the way through the 2025 season. With the weekly Coaches Poll ranking released, UT held steady at No. 15.

This featured a few teams jumping Tennessee and a few teams falling behind. Namely, Alabama moved up to No. 14, Oklahoma jumped to No. 12 and Texas A&M leaped to No. 10. Notre Dame fell all the way to No. 21, South Carolina dropped to No. 24 and Clemson fell out of the top 25 to drop behind UT.

The Vols’ mark is the eighth-highest mark in the conference. This is behind Georgia at No. 3, LSU at No. 4, Texas at No. 7, Texas A&M at No. 10, Ole Miss at No. 11, Oklahoma at No. 12 and Alabama at No. 14. Overall, 12 of the 16 teams in the SEC are ranked in the poll.

In the loss to Georgia, Tennessee got fantastic play on offense. The Vols put up 41 points, including 21 in the first quarter alone. This blew out the previous high of 17 total points by the Vols under Josh Heupel against Georgia.

Leading the charge was quarterback Joey Aguilar. The first-year Tennessee signal caller produced 371 passing yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions on 24-of-36 passing. He also ran in for a score.

His primary target proved to be Chris Brazzell. The wideout came up with six catches for 177 yards and three scores. This included a pair of 50+ yard touchdowns. Braylon Staley also played well, catching nine balls for 97 yards and a touchdown. The ground game was paced by Star Thomas’ late surge. He finished with 60 yards on nine totes.

On defense, Tennessee gave up 44 points. The Vols were led by 14 tackles from Arion Carter, but just three of them were solo efforts. Caleb Herring also registered a strong game with 1.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry.

Next, Tennessee will return to Neyland Stadium for a third-straight Saturday. The Vols will host UAB at 12:45 p.m. ET with the game airing on SEC Network.
