All eyes were on Tennessee football’s game against Georgia on Saturday, and the margin of defeat couldn’t have been much closer. With multiple chances for Josh Heupel and company to earn another signature win, UT came up short in a 44-41 overtime loss. Now, the updated AP Poll has been released, reflecting the slate of games from Week 3.
Tennessee clocks in as the No. 15 team in the country. This is no change from the spot it was in going into the loss to the Bulldogs. It also matches the ranking in the Coaches Poll.
This position is good for eighth in the SEC. The Vols are behind No. 3 LSU, No. 5 Georgia, No. 8 Texas, No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 11 Oklahoma, No. 13 Ole Miss and No. 14 Alabama. The Tide, Rebels and Aggies all jumped Tennessee in the rankings.

In the loss to Georgia, Tennessee had an effective day on offense. The Vols produced 41 points in the game, including a field goal in overtime. UT ran out to a 21-7 lead through one quarter, as well. This topped the previous high of 17 points scored against the Bulldogs in an entire game under Heupel.
Joey Aguilar made the most of the opportunity, too. The starting quarterback produced 371 passing yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions on 24-of-36 passing. He also ran in for a score. As a result, his odds to win the Heisman Trophy ballooned to be tied for the fifth-best in the country.
His primary target proved to be Chris Brazzell. The wideout came up with six catches for 177 yards and three scores. This included a pair of 50+ yard touchdowns. Braylon Staley also played well, catching nine balls for 97 yards and a touchdown. The ground game was paced by Star Thomas’ late surge. He finished with 60 yards on nine totes.
On defense, Tennessee gave up 44 points. The Vols were led by 14 tackles from Arion Carter, but just three of them were solo efforts. Caleb Herring also registered a strong game with 1.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry.
Next, Tennessee will return to Neyland Stadium for a third-straight Saturday. The Vols will host UAB at 12:45 p.m. ET with the game airing on SEC Network.
