Tennessee’s athletic administration is losing another employee to an athletic director position. Utah State is hiring Tennessee’s Cameron Walker as its new Athletic Director, ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported Sunday evening. Walker is the third member of Danny White’s team to leave for an athletic director position in the last year.
Former Tennessee deputy athletic director Allan Greene left to become the new athletic director at Pitt last fall and then deputy athletic director Ryan Alpert left to become the athletic director at Georgia Tech earlier this fall. White now has an “athletic director tree” that includes the leaders of athletic departments at Pitt, Georgia Tech, Utah State, Ole Miss, FIU and Missouri State though the later three did not work for White at Tennessee.
Walker currently serves as the Senior Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Strategy Officer, a position that he’s held since November 2024 when Greene left for Pitt. Prior to that, Walker was the Deputy Director of Athletics of Competitive Excellence at Tennessee.

An Arkansas alum, Walker arrived at Tennessee with Danny White in the winter of 2021. He has served as the sports administrator for the football program since arriving at Tennessee and was also the sports administrator for the men’s basketball program for a number of years.
Walker arrived at UCF in 2016 and spent five years there before moving to Tennessee with White. Prior to his time in Orlando, Walker was an associate athletic director at Utah Valley University. Now, Walker is back in the Beehive State at Utah State.
The Aggies are a member of the Mountain West Conference. Bronco Mendenhall is their first-year football come and they’re off to a strong 3-1 start to the season after finishing 2024 with a 4-8 record. Utah State’s men’s basketball program is one of the best in the MWC, making it to three straight NCAA Tournaments despite having three different coaches the last three years.
