Tennessee Football will see a unique environment in Starkville this weekend during its game against Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are implementing a white-out in the stadium for the game, which will encompass both the fans in the stands and the uniforms on the field.

When Mississippi State first announced the white-out back in August, it was revealed that the Bulldogs would be wearing all-white uniforms on their home field. The announcement stated that Mississippi State will wear their “all-white 2025 core uniform paired with a white helmet featuring the interlocking ‘MSU’ logo and maroon facemask.”

It’s not often that you see a home team wearing primary white uniforms, but it’s exactly what is happening this weekend in Starkville. That sets up Tennessee for a rather unique situation. It seems likely that Tennessee will bring some version of its orange uniform combination on the road with them this weekend. Either way, we know that Tennessee won’t be going with its traditional white jersey on the road this Saturday.

The last time that Tennessee didn’t wear white jerseys in a true road game was during the 2022 season against LSU. Tennessee wore its Smokey Grey uniforms in that blowout victory, but it seems unlikely we’ll see Tennessee do that again. The Volunteers have already stated that their 2025 Smokey Grey set is being saved for the Salute to Service game against New Mexico State in November.

We’ll find out exactly what uniforms Tennessee will be wearing on the road this Thursday, but it does seem likely that we will see some version of orange uniforms on the road in an SEC game this weekend.

“I know this game is pretty big for them,” Tennessee RB DeSean Bishop said on Monday. “White-out. Unusual for a home game for the opponent to be wearing white. I know it’s going to be a hostile environment. I’ve honestly been looking forward to, kind of been dreaming or having tunnel vision about these away games and just seeing the different types of scenery and different types of vibes everyone gets at theirs. I can’t wait to be a part of that environment.”

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel also commented on the environment that his team will face this Saturday afternoon.

“Know it will be a great environment, a white-out down there,” Heupel said on Monday. “For us, we got to win with our preparation and get ready to go play a really good football team on the road. And it’s going to be a great environment and we look forward to playing.”

Mississippi State’s all-white home uniforms pay homage to the Bulldogs’ 2000 team that defeated Texas A&M, 43-41, in a snowstorm during the Independence Bowl. MSU will bring back coach Jackie Sherrill and members of that team to be recognized during the game.

Tennessee Football has worn orange jerseys in all four games so far this season. The team wore the traditional orange-and-white threads in the first three games, then went to the all-orange look this past weekend at home against UAB. All of Tennessee’s games so far this season, aside from the neutral-site opener against Syracuse, have been in Knoxville.

Mississippi State (4-0) will host No. 15 Tennessee in Davis Wade Stadium this Saturday afternoon at 4:15 p.m. ET. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for continued Tennessee Football coverage leading into the game.
