ESPN Releasing Documentary on Former Tennessee Football Coach Lane Kiffin Tonight

Tonight, ESPN is releasing its documentary detailing the life and coaching career of Lane Kiffn. The current Ole Miss coach and former Tennessee football coach has quite the reputation in Knoxville, as well, after spending one year at UT before bouncing to USC. ‘The Many Lives of Lane Kiffin’ will debut on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. Following this release, an extended version will be available on the ESPN App, as well.

“From infamous firings to social media trolling, Lane Kiffin is one of the most polarizing and fascinating figures in sports,” ESPN’s press release detailed. “In a new episode, ESPN E60 explores Kiffin’s life and career as the Ole Miss head football coach grapples with his legacy and reflects on the coach, father and person he wants to be.”

The program is reported by Ryan McGee, an ESPN senior writer and college football historian. He is also an alum of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Featured in the documentary is Kiffin’s time at Tennessee. He spent one year with the program before dashing to USC. His exit caused a night of mayhem in Knoxville. During the program, Kiffin reflects on the decision to leave for the Trojans, that ended in a dramatic firing just a few years later.

“Now, at 50, Kiffin is reexamining his journey,” ESPN’s press release detailed. “In candid conversations with E60, he discusses his path to sobriety, his commitment to self-improvement through practices like hot yoga, and his renewed focus on family. In the film, McGee also has interviews with Kiffin’s daughter, Landry, and son, Knox. In addition, the program includes archival sound from his late father.”

Featured in the program are multiple notable college football and NFL names. This includes former Alabama head coach Nick Saban, former USC head coach Pete Carroll, current Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, former NFL quarterback David Carr, ESPN/SEC Network personality and UT alum Paul Finebaum and Rocky Top Insider’s cohost of The RTI Low-Down podcast and longtime college football writer, Chris Low.

The show was produced and directed by Jason Kostura and Madeline Rundlett.
