Lady Vols basketball, possibly the most well-known brand in women’s sports, is going to be in front of a national audience for at least two of its SEC games this year. On Tuesday, it was announced that Tennessee’s contests with South Carolina and Texas will both be broadcast on ABC at 3 p.m. ET on their respective dates.

UT’s game against South Carolina is on the road. It will be played on Feb. 8 in Columbia, S.C. A year ago, Kim Caldwell’s team in her first year on Rocky Top lost at home 70-63 to the Gamecocks.

The Lady Vols’ matchup against Texas will be at home. Tip-off in Knoxville is scheduled for Feb. 15. Caldwell’s team met the Longhorns on the road and lost 80-76 in the regular season. However, Caldwell did not coach in the game due to the birth of her son. Tennessee got a rematch in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, this time with Caldwell on the sideline, but fell 67-59 to end the season.

“Including our conference opponents, our schedule includes the top six teams and 10 of the top 20-ranked programs in the early preseason polls,” Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell said. “We have our work cut out for us, but I believe our challenging non-conference opponents will better prepare us for what we’re going to see in the Southeastern Conference.

“We’re a little out of balance in terms of home and away ranked opponents, and that’s something that takes some time to even out. We’ll continue to work on it going forward, but I think this year it will allow us to really test our players and get them ready for conference play.”
