Tennessee Baseball was at AT&T Field, the home of the Chattanooga Lookouts, on Saturday afternoon for the first of two fall intrasquad scrimmages that’ll be taking place outside of Knoxville in the month of October. The next scrimmage between the Orange and Grey teams will take place on Sunday, Oct. 26, at First Horizon Park in Nashville. That is the home of the Nashville Sounds, which is the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Saturday’s scrimmage gave Tennessee a chance to hit the field outside of Knoxville and interact with the Chattanooga portion of the fanbase. According to the Lookouts’ social media account, more than 4,000 fans showed up for the game during a college football Saturday.
“Yeah, it was surprising for how great of a crowd it was,” head coach Tony Vitello said after the game. “There’s a lot going on and a lot of times, we played these games on a Sunday when there’s no college sports going on. Major League Baseball playoffs – it is a different timing wise than we used to do. The people showed out and they were enthusiastic. They were into the game and most people stayed until the end of the game, which for an intrasquad or split-squad situation, was surprising to me. But our guys kind of kept them on the edge of their seats all the way through that thing, which was nice.”
The game ended in a 7-7 tie between the Orange and Grey teams.
After the scrimmage, Vitello spent a few minutes speaking to the media in Chattanooga. He spoke about Blaine Brown’s fall hitting, what he learned about his freshman class, Henry Ford’s addition, the team’s identity, and much more.
