
Tennessee basketball is less than a month away from opening up its 2025-26 season and less than three weeks away from facing Duke in an exhibition game. But Vol fans will get a chance to watch Tennessee this week as they hold an intrasquad scrimmage open to the media Saturday before the football team tangles with Arkansas at Neyland Stadium.
Rick Barnes 11th Tennessee team will tipoff its intrasquad scrimmage at 11:30 a.m. ET before the 4:15 p.m. kickoff inside Neyland Stadium.
It’s the first chance for fans to watch Tennessee basketball’s new look squad including five-star freshman Nate Ament and highly touted Maryland transfer point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie. A handful of newcomers including freshman guards Amari Evans and Clarence Massamba have been banged up this preseason but Evans was back practicing earlier this week.
Tennessee’s in-house media day, including a practice open to the media, is Thursday so that should give us a better feel for if any Volunteer players might not be able to go during Saturday’s scrimmage.

Expectations are again high for Tennessee entering the season despite losing four of five starters and five of its top seven players from last season’s Elite Eight team. Ament and Gillespie are the headliners but Tennessee’s front court as the potential to be on the SEC’s best. Shooting guard and overall floor spacing remain the biggest questions for Tennessee entering the season.
The Vols open up the season on Nov. 3 against Mercer at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center. But before then, Tennessee will hold Saturday’s instrasquad scrimmage, face Ohio State in a closed door scrimmage in Knoxville on Oct. 18 and face Duke in an exhibition game in Knoxville on Oct. 26.
