Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar reached a new throwing milestone during the Arkansas game this past weekend in Neyland Stadium. The achievement combines his success at both Tennessee this season and his past two years at Appalachian State.
As pointed out online by the SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic, Aguilar has now thrown for at least 200 passing yards in 30 straight games. This number includes his six games at Tennessee so far, all 11 games at App State during the 2024 season, and his final 13 games with the Mountaineers during the 2023 season. You would have to go all the way back to the 2023 season opener, which was also his first game with App State, to find his last sub-200 yards game. And, for the record, that one was still at 174 passing yards.
It’s an astounding statistic that points to the consistent aggressive mindset that Aguilar has with the ball in his hands.

Out of the last 30 games, Aguilar has hit the 300+ mark on eight occasions. His career-high came against ECU in the third game of the 2024 season with 424 yards on 32 completions.
Through his six games at Tennessee, Aguilar has found comfort with Josh Heupel’s offense. He’s thrown for 300+ yards in a third of his games, with a season-high 371 in an overtime loss to Georgia. He also threw for 335 yards in an overtime win over Mississippi State.
Aguilar is leading the SEC in passing through this point in the season, but not by much. Aguilar’s 1,680 passing yards barely beats out Alabama’s Ty Simpson at 1,678 yards as the two players prepare to lead their teams into battle against each other during the Third Saturday in October rivalry this weekend.
Here’s a look at Joey Aguilar’s stats in all six Tennessee games so far:
- vs Syracuse: 16/28, 247 yards, 3 touchdowns, 34 rush yards
- vs ETSU: 23/31, 288 yards, 2 touchdowns
- vs Georgia: 24/36, 371 yards, 4 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 1 rush TD
