Tennessee football has gotten incredible production from wide receiver Chris Brazzell this year. The wideout has caught 32 passes for 536 yards and seven touchdowns, including a dominant 177-yard, three-touchdown game against Georgia.
As a result, AP has named Brazzell a Mid-Season All-American for what he’s done through six games. He was placed on the second-team alongside Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson and San Jose State’s Danny Scudero. The first-team receivers are Texas A&M’s Mario Craver, USC’s Makai Lemon and Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith.
Brazzell was the only Vol named to the mid-season team. Neither cornerback Colton Hood nor edge rusher Joshua Josephs was recognized despite their great start to the year which has seen them mocked as first-round NFL draft picks.

Brazzell is coming off his weakest game of the season. He caught just one pass for five yards in the Vols’ win over Arkansas at home. However, he was consistently double-teamed and bracketed throughout the game in an attempt to take him out of it. As a result, Braylon Staley had a monster game, and Mike Matthews stepped up in the second half.
“A little bit, just didn’t come his way because of the coverage,” Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said. “Missed a deep one early in the football game, too. One in the red zone on a back shoulder throw where we’re not able to come down with it between quarterback and wide receiver. I felt like early in some ways we were just a little bit off, but there were a lot of unknowns too coming into this one, what you were going to see and how to attack it.”
Tennessee is going to either need Brazzell to get back in the fold or for the other receivers to step up again this week, though. The Vols head to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on ABC.
