Tennessee football hosts Oklahoma in the first night game of the 2025 season at Neyland Stadium Saturday night. The Vols are using the night game to break out its “dark mode” uniforms for the first time this season, the announced Monday morning.

It was a relatively obvious spot for Tennessee to wear its all black uniforms. As previously mentioned, its a SEC game and Tennessee’s first night game at home this season. The game is also one day after Halloween, making it a perfect time for the black and orange combination.

Tennessee first debut the dark mode uniforms back in Josh Heupel’s first season as head coach and the Vols are 4-1 while wearing them. They beat South Carolina but lost to Georgia wearing them in 2021, beat Kentucky in both 2022 and 2024 wearing them while adding another win against South Carolina in them during the 2023 season.

The early November SEC matchup is highly significant for both team’s College Football Playoff hopes. Both the Vols and Sooners are 6-2 on the season. Tennessee is 3-2 in SEC play while Oklahoma is 2-2. With two losses each, Tennessee and Oklahoma must win out of its going to make it back to the playoffs for a second straight season.

Oklahoma climbed into the nation’s top five earlier this month but has dropped two of its last three games, falling to Texas and Ole Miss around a win at South Carolina.

Tennessee and Oklahoma have faced off just five times in program history. The Sooners hold a 3-2 all time lead in the series with Tennessee winning the lone SEC matchup 25-15 a season ago in Norman.

Kickoff between Tennessee and Oklahoma is at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night. ABC is broadcasting the game but the announcing crew is not yet clear.
