SAN JOSE, Calif. – New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye brushed off concerns about his health and declared he’ll be ready for Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks, even after a minor shoulder issue and a bout of illness limited his practice reps last week.
Maye, who has become one of the NFL’s breakout stars this season, addressed reporters Monday night at Super Bowl Opening Night, saying he threw “as much as I would in a normal practice” and feels good heading into the biggest game of his young career. “I feel good. I’ll be just fine,” Maye said with confidence after completing a full workout.
The second-year signal-caller’s upbeat comments come after he was limited in practice earlier in the week due to a shoulder injury sustained during the AFC Championship Game and a brief illness that kept him out of Friday’s sessions. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels echoed Maye’s assurance, saying he doesn’t anticipate any limitations for his MVP-caliber quarterback heading into Sunday’s matchup.
Maye’s health has been a talking point all week, especially after social media and pundits dissected video of his throwing motion following New England’s gritty 10–7 victory over the Denver Broncos in the snow. Despite the speculation, Maye and head coach Mike Vrabel have repeatedly downplayed the issue, emphasizing that bumps and bruises are part of the NFL at this stage of the season.
At just 23 years old, Maye has already orchestrated one of the most remarkable turnarounds in recent Patriots history. New England rebounded from a 3–14 campaign last season to a 14–3 regular-season record and its first Super Bowl berth since 2018.
Still, some analysts warn that Maye could be in for a stiff test against Seattle’s top-ranked defense -a unit known for its ability to pressure young quarterbacks and force mistakes. Despite that, Maye insists he won’t change his approach. “This is the Super Bowl. We get two weeks to prepare for it… I have confidence,” he said.
For Patriots fans, the message from their franchise quarterback is clear: injury talk won’t define their Super Bowl week. Whether that confidence translates into victory over the high-powered Seahawks remains to be seen, but Maye is sure he’ll be on the field giving New England its best chance at a championship.
