There is no better team in the country than Tennessee softball.
On Monday, Softball America updated its top-25 rankings, slotting the Lady Vols as the No. 1 team in the nation. This is a jump up from their previous spot at No. 3 heading into this past weekend.
Tennessee built on a fantastic opening weekend to climb up to the top of the rankings. After earning wins over No. 21 Liberty and No. 5 Oregon to open the year, the Lady Vols returned to Clearwater and blew past No. 11 Nebraska, No. 23 Florida Atlantic, No. 6 UCLA and No. 7 Florida State.
Over the 10 games played, Tennessee is now outscoring its opponents at a staggering 76-4 clip.

Behind Tennessee in second-place is Texas Tech. That’s where former UT infielder Taylor Pannell transferred to shortly after the Lady Vols’ season concluded. The decision sparked accusations of tampering from the Red Raiders to land their top transfer class.
Rounding out the rest of the top-10 is Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and Nebraska. That makes seven of the top 10 teams in the country SEC programs.
Next, Tennessee will play in the UAB Tournament. The Lady Vols will play Missouri State, UAB, Mercer and Southern Illinois in the event next weekend. Then, UT will host the Tennessee Invitational with Appalachian State (twice), Penn State (twice) and North Carolina Central on the schedule.
