Tennessee baseball senior outfielder Reese Chapman is out of the lineup in game two against Kent State with an illness, according to a UT spokesperson.
He could be available off the bench, but it is unlikely. Tennessee is hoping the illness is a 24-hour ordeal and that Chapman will be back in the lineup Sunday.
Chapman has been one of Tennessee’s best hitters so far this season, hitting .462 with four doubles and two RBI.
In game one against Kent State, Chapman went 2-4 with a double and a run scored.

“He’s a guy I never lose any sleep about,” Tennessee head coach josh Elander said about Chapman after his superb performance on opening day last Friday. “I mean, we have our gold shirt club around here. That’s double digit homers and 50-plus RBIs. There’s some pretty cool names on that list. And he’s already put himself on that list forever, right? So got a lot of confidence with him. And again, just what he brings to table. He’s a seasoned bat, and he’s going to need to play a big role for us this year.”
Walters State transfer slugger Tyler Myatt gets the start in Chapman’s place, occupying the DH spot. Chris Newstrom moves to right field with Chapman out of the lineup, and Blaine Brown slides into left field.
