As Tennessee fans watched Jermod McCoy speak to the media at the NFL Combine event on Thursday, so did another prominent name in the NFL. That would be Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes. While the two didn’t go to high school together, both players attended Whitehouse High School in Tyler, TX. The school is located in Northeast Texas and is about 115 miles east of Dallas.
In February 2020, McCoy posted an old photo to X of himself at a Whitehouse Wildcats youth football game alongside Mahomes. McCoy posted the picture to wish good luck to Mahomes as he competed in Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers, which is the game that VFL Jauan Jennings ended up throwing a touchdown pass in.
The photo and tweet went full circle on Thursday. Mahomes quote-tweeted the post, wishing McCoy the best of luck as he goes through the NFL Combine and draft process and makes his way to the National Football League. Both players used the hashtag ‘WhitehouseWildcats’ in their posts.
Wild to see @JermodMccoy at the podium at the combine. Good luck this year! #whitehousewildcats https://t.co/a3TWfKXZdW

More From RTI: Jermod McCoy Says This Tennessee Teammate Is Going To Be An All-American in 2026
McCoy and six of his Tennessee Football teammates are currently at the NFL Combine this week in Indianapolis to prepare for their NFL futures. Thursday was the day for the defensive backs and tight ends to meet with the media, as they answered questions about their college days, their aspirations, and their futures in the league.
The question that revolved around McCoy was about his health. McCoy suffered an ACL tear about 13 months ago that sidelined him for the entire 2025 college football season. He still projects as a first-round draft pick with the injury so far behind him now, but teams will use this week to get an indication of where he is in the recovery process.
McCoy told the media that he is medically cleared, but he’ll be saving his on-field workouts for his Pro Day in Knoxville as opposed to the on-field workouts on Friday at the combine.
“I just want to make sure I’m putting the best thing out,” McCoy said in a video posted by Buck Reising. “Getting some more training time. Doing all that at Pro Day.”
Tennessee will host UT Pro Day on Tuesday, Mar. 31, on the Volunteers’ campus. The event will be closed to the public. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for highlights and notes as Jermod McCoy and his teammates take the field.
