Tennessee football quarterback Joey Aguilar is officially moving on from the Vols. After losing his request for a preliminary injunction, he attended the NFL Scouting Combine and turned his attention to his professional career.
On Monday, March 2, Aguilar said goodbye to UT on his X and Instagram accounts.
“A chapter I’ll never forget,” Aguilar wrote. “Forever home
“Thank you Knoxville #GBO #VFL”
Accompanying the post was a highlight reel from his lone season with Tennessee. The music playing in the background was from ‘TMOFF‘, an ETSU football player, the brother of Aguilar’s girlfriend, Rylan Moffitt, and a former Appalachian State teammate of Aguilar.

In Aguilar’s lone season with Tennessee, the team finished 8-5 (4-4 SEC). However, the offense took a big step back in the right direction. Aguilar posted an SEC-high in passing yards at 3,565 with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
He was looking to return to the Vols next season, but a judge declined his request for a preliminary injunction. His argument was that his junior college seasons should not count against his NCAA eligibility.
“Everything happens for a reason,” Aguilar said. “They granted me a TRO, so I was out there practicing like if I was coming back. Then, the judge declined my request. It is what it is. Like I said, I’m excited to pursue this next chapter of my life.”
