This offseason, Oklahoma added former Tennessee football legendary tight end, Jason Witten, to its staff as the team’s tight end coach. Early into his tenure, he landed Vols transfer Jack Van Dorselaer, who was a late addition to the transfer portal.

Now, Witten is beating out Tennessee on the high school recruiting trail. On Saturday night, four-star tight end Seneca Driver committed to Witten and the Sooners, according to On3. The Vols were in the mix for his recruitment, extending an early offer and hosting him on a visit.

Driver is the No. 56 recruit in the country in the 2027 class, according to 247 Composite. He is the No. 3 tight end and No. 1 player from the state of Kentucky. He is from Danville and plays for Boyle County.

Witten was announced as Oklahoma’s tight end coach on January 15. He joins a program led by head coach Brent Venables and an offense led by coordinator Ben Arbuckle.

“I love football and I love teaching the game, and Oklahoma is as prestigious a college football program as there is in the country,” Witten said at the time. “So I’m thankful to Coach Venables for the opportunity to work together. It’s been clear to me from the outset that he’s one of the best leaders of men in football. And he has the pieces in place to compete for championships, so I’m excited to work under him and Coach (Ben) Arbuckle and with the rest of the staff. It’s a tremendous opportunity and I’m proud to be a Sooner.

“I know what the expectations and standards of Oklahoma Football are and I’m excited to lean into and embrace those. But along the way, it’s also a great privilege to positively impact young men – to help them become the best players they can be and the best men they can be. That’s one of the things I respect the most about Coach Venables – that those things aren’t mutually exclusive. You can take on the responsibility to lead men but also be highly competitive in your craft. I try to uphold those standards on and off the field.”

Witten’s son, Cooper Witten, has also recently committed to Oklahoma. He was a priority linebacker target for the Vols in the 2027 class, but the chance to play with his father on staff in Norman was too much to pass up.
