Lady Vols basketball is set to lose another guard to the transfer portal. Kaniya Boyd announced her intention to enter the portal on Thursday on her Instagram.
Boyd just concluded her redshirt-sophomore season, with each of her collegiate seasons spent at Tennessee. She will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Boyd committed to Kellie Harper, but stuck through the coaching change. She arrived on campus under Harper on Jan. 8, 2024, as an early enrollee. She spent the year rehabbing a knee injury from high school and did not appear in any games.
Her commitment to Harper and retention to the roster from Kim Caldwell was huge given her recruiting status. ESPNW ranked her as a four-star prospect out of Las Vegas. She was the No. 35 player in the class on the site, as well.

This past season, Boyd played in 26 games and started in four. In this span, she averaged 1.6 points per game on 34.1% shooting from the field and 25% on threes. She also added 1.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.
This season, Tennessee finished 16-14 (8-8 SEC). The Lady Vols were the 6-seed in the SEC Tournament, but lost to Alabama in the second round. They earned a 10-seed in the NCAA Tournament, but lost to NC State in the Round of 64 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
This featured an eight-game losing streak and defeats in 11 of their last 13 games to round out the year.
Boyd is now the third transfer from Tennessee to announce their intention to depart from the program. She joins Deniya Prawl and Alyssa Latham as pieces who intend to enter.

Its time to move on before we lose all our team for Tennessee. Its time for Kim to go. It is ridiculous that Tennessee would pay 1 million dollars to a coach that has shown that she doesn’t know how to coach. You didn’t give Kelly a chance so why give Kim time to destroy the Tennessee bench.
Im not a coach but i don’t see how that can work switching the players out like she does. If there shooting and defending good why would you take them out? The players cant learn each other with that many switches in a game. Its not working Kim so why do that??? It would even make me mad when Cooper gets hot she takes her out. Dang let them play!!!
To keep Kim as a coach your not only going to lose the Players you’re going to lose the Fans that watch!! Let her go!!!!
I hope this is taking care of before next season.
GBO!!! I bleed orange!!!
It is crazy that the fans in Tennessee are so fair weather. Coach Kim has not had a chance to truly show how she is yet. She hasn’t had a chance to recruit or develop players. Let it play out before just throwing everything away. Last year everyone was excited about her coaching style. She is a great coach. The fans need to get behind her and help her out.
This program has fallen so far, smh. I mean the coach’s system doesn’t work, maybe it did wherever she came from, but this is a different level. She needs to adjust or go
