Tennessee Football is clawing its way into the recruiting battle for one of the top players in the entire 2027 class.
According to a report from GoVols247’s Ryan Callahan, Tennessee hosted Kaden Henderson for a multi-day visit on Rocky Top last weekend. Henderson ranks as a five-star prospect and the No. 1 linebacker in the class according to both 247Sports’ Composite Rankings and Rivals’ Industry Rankings.
On Mar. 7, Henderson released a top five consisting of Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. He didn’t include the Vols in his list, but Josh Heupel and his staff still managed to sway the elite prospect into a visit to Knoxville. That visit went “extremely well,” according to a report from Rivals’ Chad Simmons during an interview on The Inside Scoop with Josh Newberg on YouTube.
“Somewhat of a surprise, he went up to Tennessee,” Simmons said. “I mean, we’ve heard about the main schools involved consistently: Miami, in-state school, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. Those have been the three kind of battling for that top spot. For Tennessee to get him on campus, not just for one day, but for a multi-day visit to Knoxville, was very big.”
By all accounts, Henderson is doing his homework during his recruiting process. He’s not just going places to have a good time and see the sights, but is making the most of his time by talking to players and coaches inside the building. One of the Tennessee coaches that he reportedly spent significant time with was linebackers coach William Inge, who could prove to be a gigantic piece to the puzzle in Tennessee’s attempt to land the coveted prospect.
“I think the key there was linebackers coach William Inge,” Simmons said. “I mean, that connection, Henderson respects him as a coach. They sat down and watched some film, they watched practice, broke things down. I think everything went extremely well. He met up with some players, asked them for feedback about the program, Josh Heupel, the culture. He liked everything that he heard from the staff, from the players, from the coaches on the practice field.”
After what seems like a successful visit to Tennessee, the question now revolves around whether UT did enough to plant itself inside of Henderson’s go-to group moving forward. We already know about the five schools that he liked before Tennessee, but perhaps the visit to Rocky Top did enough to put the Vols in that top tier.
“I think now, the key is how big of an impact did this make? Can this get him back on campus for another visit, whether it be an OV or even a multi-day unofficial again? I think that’s going to tell the story about where Tennessee stands, but this visit went really well for them and Kaden Henderson,” Simmons said.
Rivals’ Industry Rankings have Henderson tagged as the No. 25 player in the 2027 cycle, the No. 1 linebacker in the class, and the No. 4 player from the state of Florida. He currently plays ball for Jesuit High School in Tampa, FL.
While it sounds like it did, Tennessee needed to leave a strong impression. According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, Henderson has upcoming official visits lined up to Miami (May 30), Texas A&M (June 5), Ohio State (June 12), Notre Dame (June 19), and Alabama (TBD). Tennessee needs to hope that it made a strong enough impact to last through all of those powerhouse visits moving forward.

Tennessee out here recruiting like a land deal—didn’t make the first cut, but still got him back on the property for a multi-day visit. That’s how you know there’s real interest.
If they can get him back for an official, they’ve at least got a shot at planting a flag. Until then, they’re competing with some serious “prime real estate” programs.
