The transfer portal won’t officially open until after the conclusion of the national championship, but basketball players across the country have made their intentions known. As far as Lady Vols basketball, four players have revealed their decision to depart from the program.
On Monday, Deniya Prawl and Alyssa Latham made their announcements. On Thursday, Kaniya Boyd and Lauren Hurst joined them.
The Lady Vols are coming off a season that certainly didn’t go as planned. Tennessee finished 16-14 (8-8 SEC). The Lady Vols were the 6-seed in the SEC Tournament, but lost to Alabama in the second round. They earned a 10-seed in the NCAA Tournament, but lost to NC State in the Round of 64 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Now, head coach Kim Caldwell is in a position where she will have to patch the holes in the ship and figure out what she wants to do going into year three. While the transfer portal isn’t open, players are still able to announce their intention to enter the portal or enter as a graduate transfer.
“I think that this world is kind of crazy of we’ll meet when we get back and we’ll figure out who wants to stay, what we’re going to do,” Caldwell said after the NCAA Tournament loss. “And I think the portal, we have a little while before it opens to get there, but it’s just going to continue to be crazier and crazier every year.”
