Lady Vols basketball is parting ways with assistant coach Roman Tubner after two seasons, according to a report from VolQuest.
“I want to thank Coach Tubner for his contributions to our program during the past two seasons,” Caldwell said. “We wish him the very best moving forward.”
This is the second coaching change for Kim Caldwell’s staff this offseason. Gabe Lazo resigned a week ago and has since taken an opening on the staff at LSU. As a result, UT hired Bill Ferrara as his replacement.
Tubner just concluded his second year with Tennessee, joining Caldwell on her inaugural staff after taking the job at UT. He was hired off of Alabama’s staff under Kristy Curry, where he spent 2021-24. Curry took the head coaching job at USF this offseason.
Tubner is an all-around coach and played a factor on the recruiting trail, but one of his calling cards was defense. He held the title of defensive coordinator for the Tide before joining the Lady Vols.

This season, Tennessee finished 16-14 (8-8 SEC). The Lady Vols were the 6-seed in the SEC Tournament, but lost to Alabama in the second round. They earned a 10-seed in the NCAA Tournament, but lost to NC State in the Round of 64 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
This featured an eight-game losing streak and defeats in 11 of their last 13 games to round out the year. After the game, Caldwell answered a question about potential staff changes.
“Yeah, the staff is good,” Caldwell said. “It was a rough year all around and I think all of that stems from me. And I’ve built a staff around me where a majority of them have come from me, so when they have learned from you and I start to question me, then it’s a little bit hard there because that’s all we know.”
So far, Tennessee has lost seven of eight potential returners to the transfer portal. The only player from last year’s roster who is eligible to return that hasn’t made an announcement is freshman Jaida Civil. Talaysia Cooper, Deniya Prawl, Lauren Hurst, Kaniya Boyd, Alyssa Latham and Mia and Mya Pauldo are all departing.
