Lady Vols Basketball Expected to Hire Florida State Associate Head Coach to Join Kim Caldwell’s Staff

Kim Caldwell has made a move to add to her Lady Vols basketball staff heading into year three. Caldwell will add Florida State associate head coach Bill Ferrara Jr. to her staff, according to a report from VolQuest.

Ferrara now joins a coaching staff at Tennessee under the direction of Caldwell that currently features Roman Tubner, Jenna Burdette, Angel Rizor and Lexie Barrier. Gabe Lazo is reportedly leaving the program, making the position open for Ferrara to take.

Ferrara has served as FSU’s associate head coach since the 2022-23 season. In this role, he oversaw a high-paced offense that averaged a Division I high 86.9 points per game during the 2024-25 campaign. That team rostered the country’s leading scorer, TaNiya Latson, as well.

Prior to his time with the Seminoles, Ferrara was the associate head coach at St. John’s for the 2021-22 season. Before that, he was an assistant coach at New Mexico from 2017-21.

Ferrara has prior experience coaching in the SEC at Florida. He was an assistant with the Gators from 2015-17 under Amanda Butler. Before that, he was an assistant at George Washington, where he coached future WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones. He spent 2013-15 at GW.

Prior to George Washington, Ferrara coached at Hofstra and Central Michigan. He was also a video coordinator at Auburn and a basketball operations intern with the Charlotte Bobcats.

Ferrara got his bachelor’s degree in business administration and management and a master’s in sports management at Florida.

This past season, Tennessee finished 16-14 (8-8 SEC). The Lady Vols were the 6-seed in the SEC Tournament, but lost to Alabama in the second round. They earned a 10-seed in the NCAA Tournament, but lost to NC State in the Round of 64 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Tennessee has lost four players to the portal so far, Alyssa Latham, Kaniya Boyd, Lauren Hurst and Deniya Prawl.
