Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy quieted many of his doubters with a strong showing at UT Pro Day on Tuesday afternoon in Knoxville. McCoy has been widely projected as a first-round pick, but no one has seen him on a field since the end of the Vols’ 2024 season. He tore his ACL in January 2025 and missed the subsequent season with Tennessee later that fall.

There’s no denying that McCoy’s talent is off the charts. At the same time, though, there has been some hesitation among analysts and experts about his recovery and how he can perform on the field. McCoy didn’t go through any drills during the NFL Combine in early March, but he did show out at Tennessee Pro Day on Tuesday.

McCoy recorded a 4.38 time during his lone attempt of the 40-yard dash, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He also notched a 38-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 7-inch broad jump. McCoy looked smooth as he went through different drills on the field, which tested that injured knee with cutting and spinning motions. McCoy passed each test by a convincing margin.

One anonymous NFL scout was impressed by McCoy’s performance on Tuesday. 105.3 The Fan (Dallas, TX) radio host Bryan Broaddus read out some of the scout’s comments on the G-Bag Nation show.

“Yeah. No issues moving at all,” the scout said when asked if he was confident in McCoy’s knee and drive-off. “Impressive vertical and broad jumps as well, so you see the strength and the power there.”

The scout was then asked if he would have any reservations about taking McCoy in the draft. The question was presumably about the 12th overall pick, which is owned by the Dallas Cowboys

“No reason for me,” the scout said. “He looked really good to go.”

Broaddus, a former Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers, shared his desire for the Cowboys to take McCoy with the 12th pick of the NFL Draft this spring.

“Trust me, that’s cornerback (No.) 1 on my board,” Broaddus said. “I can totally understand why people love (LSU CB Mansoor) Delane, because I love Delane as well. I just thought McCoy, when you look at the size, the movement skill, the wall he plays on the ball… Well, like I said, if they’re going to pass on McCoy, please, let him go somewhere before it gets to Dallas. I don’t want to have to deal with that, because I like the player that much.”

It’s hard to say that McCoy raised his stock on Tuesday. He’s already widely projected as a Top 12, Top 14 player in the draft. What’s more likely the case is that McCoy stopped his draft stock from tanking to a late first-round pick in case things were more underwhelming than they were. He put together a strong performance, though.
