It took Tony Vitello just 10 games into his MLB managing career to earn his first ejection. An umpire rung Vitello Sunday afternoon as Vitello argued an interference call on Jerer Encarnacion that turned what would have been a throwing error into an out.
Vitello had a long and heated argument with the home plate umpire, earning the first ejection of his MLB managing career.

The energy did not have the desired result for the Giants. San Fransisco led 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning when the umpires ejected Vitello. The New York Mets promptly scored four runs in the eighth inning to take the lead.
Entering Sunday’s series rubber match, San Fransisco boasted a 3-6 record. The New York Yankees swept San Fransisco the first series of the season. Vitello’s squad bounced back with a series victory over the San Diego Padres but the New York Mets won two of the first three games of the weekend set.
Vitello was rung five times in his eight seasons as Tennessee’s head coach with the last coming in the Vols’ series-rubber matchup against Auburn last season.
Other ejections came against Vanderbilt in 2021, Alabama in 2022 and the first one came against Kentucky in 2018.
