Tennessee basketball wing Amari Evans is entering the transfer portal after spending just one season in Knoxville, On3’s Joe Tipton first reported Tuesday.
Evans earned a bigger-and-bigger role over the course of the 2025-26 season, finishing the season averaging 4.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and one steal per game. The freshman guard had slightly better numbers in SEC play when he averaged 5.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 18 minutes per game.
The Pittsburgh native played sparingly early in his freshman season but earned a more significant role over the course of the season and due to his defensive prowess and aggressiveness attacking the basket. Evans had a pair of massive offensive performance during the season, scoring 16 points against Arkansas and 24 points in the regular-season finale against Vanderbilt.
Evans started two games late in the season while Nate Ament battled a right leg injury. Shooting was the weakness of Evans’ game this past season as he shot just 22% from three-point range and 57.5% from the free throw line.

It’s been a major offseason of turnover for Tennessee despite a multitude of players from last season’s Elite Eight team still having eligibility remaining.
Evans is the seventh Tennessee player to enter the transfer portal this offseason, joining Cade Phillips, Clarence Massamba, J.P. Estrella, Bishop Boswell, Jaylen Carey and Troy Henderson.
The only two players currently returning to Tennessee’s roster for next season is power forward DeWayne Brown and combo guard Ethan Burg.
Tennessee has four incoming players including Belmont transfer sharpshooter Tyler Lundblade. The Vols currently have seven scholarships to work with in the transfer portal and it will be eight if Nate Ament declares for the NBA Draft as expected.
The Vols will look to add players across the board but a high level point guard, scoring wing and rim protecting big man will be at the top of the priority list for Barnes and his staff.
