Notre Dame transfer wing Jalen Haralson committed to Tennessee basketball on Wednesday evening shortly after his midweek official visit with the Vols. Haralson chose Tennessee over North Carolina and Ohio State.
“They win. They win at the highest level,” Harlason told RTI. “They develop guys. They get guys to the next level and that’s my dream.”
Haralson averaged 16.2 points, four rebounds and 2.6 assists per game as a freshman at Notre Dame last season. The 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward played both on the wing and at power forward for the Fighting Irish and shot 51.5% from the field and 20% from three-point range.
A former McDonald’s All American, Haralson scored 20-plus points eight times during his freshman season including three times in Notre Dame’s final four games of the season.
Haralson’s 33.9% usage rate was not only the highest on Notre Dame’s team but the ninth highest of any player in the country. For comparison sake, Ja’Kobi Gillespie’s 29.1% usage rate was the highest on Tennessee’s roster last season.

How Haralson fits at Tennessee, where his usage rate will certainly be lower, will be interesting to follow in his sophomore season. But Haralson believes Tennessee is the right spot for him to develop.
“Just, Coach Barnes. His ability to get guys to the next level,” Haralson said.. “Obviously, we’ll have a good team here. So, it’s a good spot.”
The Indiana native ranks as a four-star and the No. 25 player in the transfer portal according to 247sports. On3 ranks Haralson as a four-star and the No. 39 player in the portal while EvanMiya ranks him as a four-star and the No. 64 player in the portal.
Haralson is the fourth transfer to commit to Tennessee this offseason along with Belmont sharpshooter Tyler Lundblade, Cal combo guard Dai Dai Ames and Loyola (Chicago) center Miles Rubin. Tennessee also signed three prep prospects in the fall.
The Vols lost six players to the transfer portal this offseason including Bishop Boswell, Amari Evans, Clarence Massamba, Cade Phillips, Jaylen Carey and J.P. Estrella.
At the time of publication, Tennessee has four scholarships to work with as it fills out its roster for the 2026-27 season. The Vols hosted VCU combo guard Terrence Hill Jr. on a visit over the weekend and are also hot after Wake Forest guard Juke Harris.
